End of year and looking forward to summer!

I have not been able to keep up my reading schedule as end of school year activities have been taking over! Some of you are teachers, I know, and will understand exactly what I mean. With grading, final exams, class days, proms...it becomes a bit too much.

I've been escaping into the Sookie Stackhouse novels...a delicious guilty pleasure!

I've also been compiling a list for summer reading. I have a few so far, but was wondering if there were any suggestions out there?

  1. Do you plan to read any PD books? I have a few on my list. Like, Reading Ladders by Teri Lesesne. I just ordered it for the English Companion Ning book club. Maybe you'd want to participate? It's a cool ning for English teachers and their book club reads great titles. Here's the ning site page if you're interested:

Enjoy your summer. I still have a little over a week!

  2. I am so glad to see that I am not the only one who was overwhelmed with the end of school. I have a huge summer reading stack! I am reading a number of debut authors for the summer. Enjoy!

  3. I loved the Sookie Stackhouse novels; altho her style of writing sometimes bothered me Sookie is a great and very real character, someone I'd want to be friends with. Enjoy!

As for reading suggestions, here are a few I've enjoyed: Incarceron by Catherine Fisher, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Woblowski (hope I spelled that right), The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver, and Duma Key by Stephen King.

Hope you have a great and relaxing summer!

  4. I do have one sort of PD book I'm working on called...Why Kids Don't Like School. (I think that is what it's called, but I don't have it right in front of me.) It's good, but I think I'm learning more about my own learning! I'll definitely check out the ning site.

I read Edgar Sawtelle last year and loved it!

  6. I have just discovered your blog. I have many reading suggestions, all geared YA, on my blog. So, I'm not sure if you were looking for suggestions for yourself that were adult titles, or ones that your students would like :)

Some of my recent favorites in the YA genre are Last Night I Sang to the Monster, Riding Invisible, Last Summer of the Death Warriors, and Half Life of Planets. You can find more suggestions on my blog:

I'd love to hear what you are reading and enjoying!

    Looking forward to reading more...thanks!
